Street of Cats: The Eternal Owners of the City and Traces of Visual Memory
"Street of Cats" is a visual narrative that traces the hidden subjects—stray cats—who transform the city from a mere architectural mass into a living organism. This black-and-white series serves as a tribute to the true owners of the streets we "build"; those who were there before us and will remain long after we are gone.
In this work, the photographer reinterprets the city's culture and identity from a feline perspective, moving beyond the human realm. By casting aside a human-centric worldview and turning the lens toward the true sovereigns of the street, this approach exposes the conflict between the modernizing face of the city and the raw reality of street life.
Urban Culture and the Ontological Presence of the Animal
The project positions the cat not merely as an aesthetic element, but as a fundamental cultural code that constitutes the city's identity. In the timelessness of black and white, the contrast between the harshness of the asphalt and the softness of a cat’s fur renders the city’s "gritty" and lived-in face more visible. These visuals explore:
Questioning Belonging: To whom do the streets belong? Are we the masters of concrete and steel, or is it the creatures who experience every cell of that space anew each day?
Urban Memory: Cats are the most faithful witnesses of the city. This series creates a record of memory by photographing urban transformation, solitude, and crowds through their eyes.
An Aesthetic Eulogy: While praising these wise spirits of the street, the project visualizes them not as decorative components of the city, but as legitimate stakeholders of the living space.
"Street of Cats" invites the viewer to look down, to notice these ancient souls gliding silently through the noise of the modern city, and to reconsider who is truly the guest in the world we have built.
Proje, kediyi sadece estetik bir unsur olarak değil, kentin kimliğini oluşturan temel bir kültürel kod olarak konumlandırır. Siyah-beyazın zamansızlığında, asfaltın sertliği ile bir kedinin yumuşak tüyleri arasındaki karşıtlık, kentin "kirli" ve yaşanmış yüzünü daha görünür kılar. Bu görseller;
